Yes, I'm alive

Yes, I'm still in the world of the living. Just haven't been much for creativity outside of those icons I did a few weeks back. Some of it is my situation with being unemployed, the other part is school, and the rest is just trying to get a feel for what I want to do with the rest of my life, and frankly, thinking about some of it has been making me depressed. The fact that I'm not in my twenties anymore has finally sunk in and that has a lot to do with it, I think.

So, I finished the second chapter of Silent Shadow about six weeks ago and I meant to have Chapter 3 (the final chapter) started before I went back to classes on the 11th. As we all probably know, that didn't happen mostly because I've been immersed in a web dev project that is directly related to the comic—my Wordpress plugin, Manga+Press. Anyway, I want to get back to working on Silent Shadow, among other things. I've found that I also want to get back into making Poser add-ons and 3D models and textures, messing around with AfterEffects and just a host of other things.

Ah well, I have less than a year now before graduation :D

A while ago, I was reading about Fritz Lieber, who did the Lankhmar stories and that actually cheered me up when I was having a lot of the same reservations about life. I guess he was actually studying to be a preacher, or was a preacher up until he turned thirty when he started writing his short stories and continued writing them until he retired at eighty and then died at eighty one. Sometimes it sucks to look at talented kids and see them as having some amazing head start over yourself, but when you really think about it, would you have ever been willing to stick to something for the next fifty years back in your twenties? Think about all the crap ideas you may have had back then too and compare to the sort of perspective you now have at thirty.

Hope you feel better soon at any rate. The job situation really sucks, but the economy seems to be back on track again except for individuals. It's only so long before the job market starts picking up again.

You know, it's not so much whether or not I would have had the resolve to stick with something like school when I was in my twenties—I started working at HCMC when I was 22 going on 23 and stayed there until just a few months after my 30th birthday. I think it's more a regret that I didn't decide on somethings sooner. Mostly, it's just that feeling that I've gotten older and I'm trying to get a view of what the rest of my life is going to be after school.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the economy will start to pick up job-wise by next spring. That's when I'm supposed to graduate. There are a lot of students who graduated when I was originally supposed to graduate—last fall—frankly, I'm now glad I didn't graduate with the Fall '08 class.

Well whether the economy is in the shitter or no, the Baby Boomers are starting to retire and twenty-something hipsters have been raised to not give a shit, so there'll be jobs.
