More Ramblings...

Sat Mar 21, 2009, 8:29 AM
Another two/three-year long project of mine is the cel-shading system I've developed for my webcomic Silent Shadow. I've had people remark that it's the kind of cel-shading that reminds them of Appleseed. Well, lately I've been working with Adobe Illustrator, namely redoing the magazine cover that I did way back in my first quarter at AiM, which featured older versions of the Silent Shadow characters. While doing the rendering and at the same time, playing around with LiveTrace; it occurred to me that maybe I should create a new set of cel-shaders for Poser that would make converting over to vector art easier. The more I think about it; the more I like it.

I have a Twitter account for Silent Shadow, if anyone is interested in following updates.

In other news, I <3 Pandora. Almost as much as I love Last.fm :D

Last night, I started rendering out the hires panels for Page 19. The first panel took from 10pm till 3am to finish; and that's on a dual-core 2.2Ghz/4GB RAM system. I'm drooling over the quad-core systems but the way it's going, I won't be able to build one until I can get a job. The school's dual-boot Macs have quad-core processors; the other day, I decided to test the dual-boot system (what the dual-boot Macs are, for people who don't know, are Macs that can run both Windows XP and OS X). For shits-and-giggles, I booted into Windows; well, not exactly for shits-and-giggles. I needed to run Uniform Server so I could continue to work on a PHP script I've been developing for the last few days. Unfortunately, Uniform Server wouldn't run and I couldn't figure out why so I said fuck it. Either way, this was the second time that I tried using Windows on a Mac and honestly, the first time, I wasn't really all that impressed. Maybe it was the Mac that I was on, but it seemed like Windows loaded slower than it does at home on my single-core system that I use for everything. The second time, everything loaded up like it should.

Also have been getting shits-and-giggles watching my younger sister play Mortal Combat vs. DC Universe on the PS3. That is interesting and all I have to say is welcome to gamer-hood, Jennifer ;-)

:postit: 03.21.09: Work is proceeding; slowly but surely. I have to edit some footage for a class so that is going to slow things up until next weekend.

Have a Livejournal; like the comic? Friend the feed: [link]

Oh, by the way, Inkscape does a pretty nice job of tracing for vector too.

I've been meaning to play with Inkscape, just to see how it compares with Illustrator or OpenOffice Draw. I always like to keep track of what's-what in open-source software :D
