Bwah!

Sun Feb 15, 2009, 9:35 AM
Well, I've been posting stuff but I haven't really felt like talking much. Winter blues and the mid-term trough managed to thoroughly nail my ass. The ear-infection didn't help much either, come to think of it.

Anyway, there's been something I've been meaning to advertise for about a few months now and have just been forgetting. After one of my quarters taking a video production class, I learned about script writing (among other things) and figured out how that would apply to writing scripts for comics. I'd been looking for script-writing software, or failing that, a macro that could be used in OpenOffice to format documents in production script style. Well, I didn't find the latter but I did find the former. A free software package called Celtx, which totally rocks. It has several templates for different types of scripts, ranging from video right down to—yep—comic books. It even has features for you to organize resources like reference images and storyboards and it even has a character-guide feature. I've been using Celtx since last summer to write the script for Silent Shadow and I've been pretty happy with the results.

Anyway, thought I'd throw that out there.

Neat! I tried my own style of script writing for Night Warrior Limited back in the day. But, I like that this has a storyboard mode, too. Thanks for the link!

No problem ;-) I should have shared this one sooner :D

Hee, I wish I was more organised, this seems useful. Thank you for the heads up. And compared to a couple weeks ago, it's felt like a tropical paradise outside, so the winter doldrums ought to clear up soon. I can't even enjoy spring, I'll be 30 in March. *weep* I'll be a feeble old man. *cry*

I think what I was probably feeling was life catching up with me ^_^ The weather just made it worse.

And yeah, if you think turning 30 is bad; I'll be 31 :D Either way, I'm still going to make an effort to enjoy spring; I'd be that much happier if I get hired at any of the various places I've been applying :\

I'd really like to move back to the cities, but jobs are so hard to come by I'm holding onto this one up in Cambridge in a deathgrip, so I'm kinda stuck for now. It took me a couple months of searching to even get the one I have two years ago.

I think I kind of know what you mean about the life catching up thing. I make the jokes and all, but it is pretty intimidating to be hitting thirty soon and I really haven't done anything. A few years ago, I could say I was pretty late on the growing the fuck up front, but the last couple years, I've just been wasting away up here. Hehe, I don't know where to go from that.

the biggest thing holding me back is where the jobs are located and the fact that I still don't have a license. I'm going to try again in another month and my feeling is I'd better fucking pass the road test this time.

I think I saw it coming around the time I turned 27; that was one of the driving factors in me getting into school. That, and I didn't want to work for HCMC for the rest of my life. I realize now that if I didn't leave HCMC when I did, there was a good chance that it'd take five or six years for me to get my bachelor's degree. Now, if I don't fail any classes I should graduate next September.
:iconmonkeynohito:
Right, it should be easier with a license, but a car plus insurance can really add onto the bills if you can get away with the bus line. depending on how much you may be able to work during school, you might not end up taking home all that much.

Maybe, maybe not. A large part of it is I'm getting tired of being dependent on the buses—never know when they might go on strike again. As for insurance, I'm halfway expecting that rolling it in with the homeowner's insurance should keep the premiums low *shrugs*
:iconmonkeynohito:
You should be fine on insurance unless you're paying off some kind of sporty new car...d'oh!
